Sewing 101
Learn the basics of hand and machine sewing in a friendly environment.
Service Description
Get an introduction to the wonderful world of sewing with our Sewing 101 class! This is your class if you've never picked up a needle or used a sewing machine before, or if you'd like to refresh your skills after some time away. Each class will build on the one before, and will teach you foundational techniques such as: -Hand sewing -How to handle and cut fabric -How to use a simple pattern -How to sew straight seams on a machine -How to troubleshoot common sewing machine issues -How to plan and create an easy first sewing project -Ideas for basic alterations and repair of clothing or home goods This class will also provide you the knowledge needed for more advanced sewing and fiber arts instruction or personal projects. For alterations and repair tips, you're welcome to bring personal items (ex. pants or skirt to be hemmed) after the first class. NOTE: For those interested in learning on a sewing machine, we ask that you bring your own machine to class. Please ensure it's had recent maintenance and is running well. You can find several good quality sewing machine repair shops in Eugene, if you need to take yours in for its annual cleaning and inspection. We will have one or more machines on hand in case of contingencies, but it's best to learn on the one you already own.
