About the event
Process painting, sometimes also known as intuitive painting, is the practice of bringing one's self to the canvas and allowing the felt sense of brushes, paint, color, flow, composition, balance, contrast, symmetry, chaos, and internal sensation or intuitive impulse to assist in the creation of the artwork. No prior art experience or pre-conceived idea is necessary to create the work. It is the experience of discovering one's self and one's creative genius that is the goal, with the art piece itself as a by-product. You may choose to view what's that's created as merely a record of the experience, as material for future jumping -off points, or as work that you would like to craft into finished art piece for exhibition and/or sale.
During this day-long workshop, we will explore a variety of techniques to help enhance the intuitive art making experience, and will have extended time to paint and/or venture into the use of mixed media, working through and/or developing a more complex piece(s). Guidance will be provided by the instructor as needed to help nurture the process for each student.Â
Schedule:Â
- Introductions, and an overview of the practices of process, intuitive and visionary arts painting approachesÂ
- Learning and practicing with methods of image generation, such as colcamania, word association, scribble drawing, guided imagery, and more
- Foundational principles for laying out and developing an image in acrylic paints
- Brown bag lunch (stay or take a break on your own)
- Painting timeÂ
- Sharing our work, identifying directionsÂ
- Closing circleÂ
Based on student interest, we may develop a future series of workshops and additional offerings that will help provide continuity and community as you continue to develop your work at home.Â
