About the event
Not Your Grandmother's Mosaics! This class will help expand your mixed-media repetoire using layered collage images, stained glass, mosaic tiles, artist created ceramic pieces, mirror fragments, gemstones, beads, found objects etc. to construct a painterly and expressive art piece with personalized meaning.
In this 2-day workshop intensive, participants will have the opportunity to create a personal 12" x 12" mixed media mosaic on wood panel, incorporating personal images, found objects, and stained and clear glass. Step-by-step instructions will be shared on creating a mosaic from start to finish including glass cutting, placement, working with images and found objects, adhesives, and grouting.
Participants are encouraged to bring objects they would like to incorporate including laser copies of photos and images. A list of suggested materials will be provided prior to the workshop. You are are also encouraged to reach out to the Studio prior to the workshop to discuss project ideas, which will be shared with the instructor.Â
The weekend will begin with a brief presentation prior to beginning our pieces, covering the history of mosaics, and providing imagery to ignite your imagination. The rest of Saturday will be spent working on designs and arrangement, with the remainder of the time on Saturday/Sunday spent gluing pieces. Sunday we will have a demonstration on how pieces may be grouted once dried.Â
Workshop participants will come away with a completed 12 x 12" panel, suitable for wall hanging indoors, and your choice of grout medium. You will also have the option to purchase a set of mosaic tools for you to continue your creative exploration at home, or at the Studio.Â
Creating is an essential part of Anna's life. Born & raised in Oregon, she graduated from Portland State University with a BA in Art & Psychology in 1999. She went on to become the "Resident Mosaic artist & art educator" for Studios on the Park in San Luis Obispo, CA., teaching weekly art classes to kids and teens. She is currently a vendor with the Oregon Country Fair, has led workshops at Sitka Center for Art & Ecology, and exhibits her work in Portland and the Oregon Coast. She loves all the elements of our natural regional landscape, symbols, mythology, magic and mystery, which shine through in her work.
