Our resident Florence poet, Rod Hatter (AKA "Panhead Rod") has been leading a 2025 poetry open MIC series at the Studio. May's open MIC, the "Rhody Rebels" in honor of Florence's Rhododendron Festival and the historic ties with motorcycle culture, drew a devoted crowd of readers and listeners, including Edith Cronk from KXCR's Poetry Club broadcast, and members of FRAA's Big Wave Poetry gathering. We got deep into themes such as love, loss, family, subjective insight and breakthroughs, healing and transformation, with a hearty dose of humor thrown in for good measure.
This month, we will feature the "Essence of Summer Solstice" open MIC on Friday, June 28th from 3-5pm. We've been doing a more casual "round robin" style of reading, rather than doing a sign up sheet, but if we get a lot of people we might ask for sign ups - please check in at the desk when you arrive if you're interested in reading.
Select recordings of highlights from these events will be posted to our SASS Youtube channel soon!
